Brief History
Transcarpathia is a historic vinicultural land. Hillsides of the volcanic Carpathians, a lot of the sun and sufficient water amount predetermined the development of winemaking on these lands since ancient times. Transcarpathian wines were supplied to courtyards of medieval kings and nobles, even presidents of modern states. The culture of Transcarpathian winemaking is unique because during historical vicissitudes it incorporated Hungarian, Italian and Austrian traditions. It is the result of this cultural composition that gave such an interesting and colourful product as Transcarpathian wine.
And we at Chateau Chizay make it exclusively from our Transcarpathian grapes. 272 hectares of grapes on the perfect terroir of Transcarpathia. We have craftsmen who respect local traditions and were educated on modern winemaking in Europe. Inspiration from history, energy for the future – both are added to our bouquet of wines.
Wine Complex Chateau Chizay was founded in 1995 in the natural area of Chizay, near the town of Berehove in Transcarpathia. We built modern production from scratch, but with a focus on local history of winemaking. Our principles are diligence and honesty, respect for nature and love for what we do.

Winemaker Chiz Museum
Our “Winemaker Chiz museum” introduces knowledge about grapes, wine, winemaking in the world, Ukraine and Transcarpathia in an easy intersting way.
Chiz is a real historical figure, a tradesman who lived near the modern city of Beregovo in the 13th century, owned vineyards in the Chizay valley, which got its name from his name.
This is the first Museum of viticulture and winemaking in Western Ukraine and the second one in the Ukraine.
Our oldest wine press is 300 years old, but the traditions of winemaking in Transcarpathia are way older. They are alive in the skills of the masters of Chateau Chizay.
Our museum is an educational project created with great love. This is our gift to Ukraine, Transcarpathia, to all who are interested in the history of winemaking and wine culture.
The museum of the winemaker Chiza is open 7 days a week, from 9.00 to 20.00.
Chizay Mala Hora
Certain restaurants attract visitors not only by their cuisine, but also a special location and atmosphere. The restaurant and mini-hotel Chizay.Mala Gora is located at the foot of the grape plantation of Mala Gora (Little Mountain) and serves delicious dishes, combining Transcarpathian, European and Mediterranean cuisine!
The landscape is its main adornment, and the natural light is used to emphasize the stylish interior. The restaurant is suitable for guests, from a few and up to 200 people, with its own parking area and a playground. Among the special dishes is escargot from the snails of the first Transcarpathian farm, products from eco-creameries(cheese-dairies), Spanish soup “rabo de toro”, (in Transcarpathia available only here) and other dishes that are the most savour of wine. The restaurant is an ideal place for a romantic dinner, a family holiday, a corporate banquet and a gala event. We are waiting for you. “Chizay Mala Gora” is something special!

Chateau Chizay Academy
Chateau Chizai creates not only wine. We founded our Chateau Chizay Academy in order to provide sustainable development of wine culture in Ukraine and in our region – Zacarpattia, also known as Transcarpathia.
Our academy is a set of seminars and trainings for winemakers, specialists in tourism and hospitality, international educational collaborations with other wineries and wine institutions.
